Taking its name from the Internet PHRASE ‘going monkmode’, meaning to isolate oneself from the outside world and abstain from pleasurable activities to increase one’s productivity, ‘MonkMode’ follows the endless behavioural loops of hooded figures planting trees in a forest.
walled within a guarded fortification while a voiceover utters motivational ‘grindset’ quotes, the piece explores contemporary anxieties around MASCULINITY AND online hustle culture.
